Tel Aviv Conference, September 2011

Rob Merkin and Ozlem Gurses participated in a major insurance law conference arranged by the Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances (AIDA) in Tel Aviv in September 2011. Ozlem Gurses gave a presentation on extra-contractual liability to the AIDA Reinsurance Working Party. Rob Merkin gave a plenary presentation on insurance law reform in the UK. Upon returning to UK, Rob Merkin also gave his customary presentation "Annual Insurance Law Review" at a seminar organised at Lloyd’s of London by the British Insurance Law Association.

Andrea Lista's article "Darkness at the Edge of Town: Redrawing the Map for Mergers and Acquisitions in the Financial Services Sector", addressing mergers and acquisitions in both the banking and insurance sectors, has been accepted for publication by the Journal of Business Law and is forthcoming in 2012.

Miao Li was one of two PhD researchers from Southampton to give a presentation at the annual conference of the Society of Legal Scholars. Her presentation in the Maritime Law section was entitled "The Marine Insurance Broker's Liability to Pay the Premium--Whether s. 53(1) is out-dated?"

Meanwhile, Aysegul Bugra is currently undertaking comparative insurance law research at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg.

The book "Insurance Law: Doctrines and Principles" which is co-authored by Rob Merkin was published in a third edition; the book "Maritime Law" appeared in its second edition including a chapter on marine insurance by Rob Merkin, Johanna Hjalmarsson and Richard Pilley.
