European invitation for Southampton academic

Professor Sylvia Kierkegaard of ILAWS at the Southampton Law School was invited gave a keynote speech at the EU Commission’s 2012 Digital Agenda for Europe Assembly in Brussels in June 2012. She spoke about Cybercrime and Punishment, New Developments and Challenges at the workshop on security.

Around 1,500 people including policy-makers, politicians, business leaders and lobbyists were at the meeting, which launched the 2020 Horizon strategy for the EU.

The trust and security pillar of the Digital Agenda for Europe aims at enhancing cyber security preparedness, combating cyber-crime and cyber attacks, ensuring data protection and safer internet for children. Building on this, the upcoming European Strategy for Internet Security to be adopted in the third quarter of 2012 aims at ensuring and promoting an open, transparent, secure and resilient global digital ecosystem benefitting EU citizens, businesses and public administrations.
