ILAWS named finalist for a top award
The Southampton Law School’s Institute for Law and the Web (ILAWS) will be a finalist at the prestigious 2013 Halsbury Legal Awards.
One of the award categories recognises ‘academic contribution’. It will be presented to an individual or team who has made a significant impact on the academic development of the law and its study. This is a new awards ceremony which will celebrate excellence in the law and significant contribution to the legal sector.
The study of IT law began at the University of Southampton in 1980 when Professor Steve Saxby introduced the first UK LLB course in Computer Law. He is the Director of ILAWS and leads a team of twenty specialists, visitors and research students in this area of law. The research centre was established in 2006.
“We are delighted the achievements of ILAWS have been recognised by judges representing the company which produces Halsbury's Laws of England - a uniquely comprehensive and authoritative encyclopaedia of law,” says Steve. “We have just contributed the first ever section on IT Law to the work which is now more than a century old.”
The awards will be presented in May 2013 at the Lancaster Hotel in London.
