New book to explore big questions of digital identity
Academics and postgraduate students at ILAWS, the UK’s leading centre for internet and telecoms law are planning a major new book on digital identity to be published in 2015-16.
It will address today’s big questions such as What is identity now? How is the concept of identity changing given modern technologies? To what extent are we anonymous on the Web? What are the challenges of linking online and offline identities? What does this mean for the law? What is the future of identity? The book proposal will be submitted to Sweet & Maxwell early in 2014.
Members of the Institute discussed the book’s scope and chapters at a recent meeting. Professor Steve Saxby, Director of ILAWS and PhD student Alison Knight have already written a paper Identity crisis: global challenges of identity protection in a networked world which they presented at the 8th International Conference on Legal, Security and Privacy Issues in IT Law series in Bangkok.
Professor Saxby is the in-house lawyer for a £1.944M transatlantic project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to examine identity within contemporary society. SuperIdentity is led by Dr Sarah Stevenage from Psychology at Southampton.
