Two weeks of lectures covering all aspects of law was held in January to assist students options in law after graduation. Lawyers from top law firms gave their time to discuss their experiences and knowledge in their specific field. Our law students found the days inspiring and valuable for their future careers. Here are some comments we received from them:
-
"It was nice to see the solicitors in Friday casual wear and I was thankful that they were friendly and helpful. It made the visit less intimidating. During the network lunch I appreciated their honesty and advice."
-
"Really excellent event that was unique to all the other sessions as we got out of university and were able to experience the office environment at Shoosmiths."
-
"I visited Winchester Court. I had such an incredible time, learning a lot and witnessing a very interesting trial."
-
"The lectures have been so insightful and I had such a great experience at Winchester Crown Court with Judge Cutler that I ended up going back on another day!"
-
"This was a really good session. It taught me new useful skills that will be relevant in applying for vacation schemes etc. The session leaders were really knowledgeable and experienced and the session was of real value."
-
"I very much enjoyed this presentation. Rather than talking about the firm generally, Irwin Mitchell provided us with an insight into what working in the firm is really like, along with specific case studies in different departments."
-
"A detailed presentation on the GLS and what such a career entails, provided me with an understanding of a possible alternative career to the bar and solicitor route."
-
"This has been my favourite talk to date, the speaker was very enthusiastic and genuine which was amazing to see. He always was very frank about what he does and the reason behind it. The talk not only made me consider becoming a barrister but it also motivated me to work harder in my degree."
-
"Excellent presentation, very useful and informative without the usual pomp and circumstance you get from some law firms. Detailed summary of the various routes to qualification as well as personal testimonies and a more informal insight into the legal profession. Bring them back next year!"
-
"It was well delivered, served as good practice for assessment centre case studies."
The students always seem to be engaged, and well prepared, and I was asked some interesting questions
The day went really well and all of the students I met were very enthusiastic and bright. I think the students really enjoyed the exercise and I was very impressed with their contributions.
