Professor James Davey presents his paper to Rutgers University Centre for Risk & Responsibility

Professor James Davey, Professor of Insurance & Commercial Law and Co-Director of the Insurance Law Research Group at Southampton Law School is attending the Insurance Scholars Workshop 2017 at the Rutgers University Centre for Risk & Responsibility on 20th October 2017.

His paper is entitled ‘Liability for Autonomous Vehicles: Like a Rolling Stone’ and considers attempts within the UK to legislate for motor insurance for driverless cars (and the like).

In doing so, Professor Davey shows that the dangers of redesigning legal regimes (with little testing or research) are akin to allowing new technologies to be used without extensive modelling and testing.  This is a global problem, as US law is facing the same issue, of how to manage liabilities and liability insurance to protect injured passengers and other road users.
