In the context of an ongoing review of copyright rules, the European Union is currently considering introducing a mandatory exception allowing text and data mining activities.

Dr Eleonora Rosati, Associate Professor in Intellectual Property Law, was requested by the JURI Committee of the European Parliament to produce a study outlining the technical aspects of text and data mining processes and their interplay with intellectual property rights.

On 22 February 2018, during a workshop organized at the European Parliament, Dr Rosati presented her findings and discussed them with Members of the European Parliament, the European Commission, and relevant stakeholders alike.
