Professor David Gurnham (School of Law) has been awarded follow-on funding from the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (£2,000) to continue policymaker and public engagement work based on research into young people’s understanding of sexual consent. David Gurnham leads the project, collaborating with Law colleagues Harry Annison and Mark Telford.
The funds will pay for a stakeholder roundtable in the winter of 2018/19 with police, Crown Prosecutors and representatives of education, sexual assault victims’ charities and young people to explore how best to engage with young people on the issue of consent. That event will draw on original empirical research to be carried out with young people in the Southampton area this summer.
