Publisher honours Emeritus Professor Steve Saxby

More than 30 guests travelled from as far afield as Australia and the United States to attend a dinner in London on 5th October, organised by the publisher, Elsevier, to honour Professor Steve Saxby’s outstanding achievement of 33 years as editor of Computer Law and Security Review – The International Journal of Technology Law and Practice. Steve Saxby founded the journal in 1985 and built up the publication to the point where, in 2018, Google Scholar announced it to be the world’s no. 1 technology law journal based upon the visibility and influence of its content.

His departure from the editorship coincides with the publication in August of the 200th edition of the journal under his direction. The new editor from 2019 will be Professor Sophie Stalla Bourdillon, Professor in Information Technology Law and Data Governance at Southampton Law School. Sophie Stalla Bourdillon is also the Director of ILAWS, the Institute for Law and the Web and its interdisciplinary core iCLIC. Her editorship will ensure that the future development of this outstanding publication will be retained within Southampton Law School.

Steve Saxby retired from Southampton Law School as Professor of Information Technology Law and Public Policy in 2016 after 39 years’ service. He was founder of the first undergraduate law course in the UK in Computer Law at the then Faculty of Law in 1980, followed by an LLM module in European Union Information Technology Law in 1991.
