Signing of Memorandum of Understanding with the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute, Sri Lanka

Published: 19 November 2018

Andrew Serdy of Southampton Law School, along with Gareth Giles of Public Policy|Southampton, recently visited the Sri Lankan capital Colombo to participate in the signing ceremony for the University’s new Memorandum of Understanding with the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute (LKI), an international relations think tank attached to the Sri Lankan foreign ministry, which calls for annual exchange visits.

Andrew also delivered a presentation at a ‘Track 1.5 Dialogue’ for government representatives and academics on “The Indian Ocean: Defining Our Future”’, an event co-hosted by the LKI and the Sri Lankan Government. Sri Lanka occupies a key geostrategic location and its government is paying ever closer attention to ocean issues affecting its relations with both near neighbours and more distant countries. Its decision to play a more prominent role in Indian Ocean affairs also opens up potential for greater involvement for other parts of the University
