Dr Melinee Kazarian to provide advice to the Infected Blood Inquiry

Published: 8 March 2019

Dr Melinee Kazarian, Lecturer in Law and member of the Centre for Health, Ethics and Law (HEAL), will be providing advice to the Infected Blood Inquiry as part of the ‘Medical Ethics’ expert group.

“The Infected Blood Inquiry has recently confirmed the first appointments to the expert groups who will be providing advice to the Inquiry in a transparent and open way. Experts from a range of fields will help the Inquiry to examine how men, women and children in the UK were given infected blood and/or infected blood products; the impact on their families; how the authorities (including government) responded; nature of any support provided following infection; and questions of consent.” The full Inquiry news visit the Infected blood inquiry website.

Melinee has also recently published a paper in the Medical Law Review on criminal liability for healthcare failings, where she explores where blame should lie and whether the criminal law can be of any use in cases involving healthcare systemic failings such as in the Mid Staffordshire Hospital Scandal, the Gosport War Memorial Hospital Scandal or the Infected Blood Scandal.
