The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020 has ranked Southampton as one of the UK’s top 20 Law Schools.

The University as a whole retained its top 20 position, remaining the second-highest performing university in the South East, with just Oxford ahead in the regional table.

The Good University Guide, published annually, provides rankings for UK universities, with the aim of giving an overview of higher education in the country.

Professor Brenda Hannigan, Head of Southampton Law School, said: “Our top 20 standing reflects our commitment to delivering high quality, research-led, rigorous legal education, equipping our students to be tomorrow’s lawyers.

“To achieve this ranking, we have focused on those elements – quality of teaching, student satisfaction, feedback and assessment, pastoral support – essential to any high-quality programme.

“A key ingredient in our success is that our programmes are delivered by staff who are at the forefront of their subjects, engaged in national and international debate and reform, and who bring all their research expertise and enthusiasm to the lecture room.

“The final component is an engaged student body, eager to learn and excited by the challenge of studying law in all its aspects.”

University league tables measure a range of criteria, including entry standards, student satisfaction, staff-to-student ratio, expenditure on facilities and resources and research quality.

These latest results come after the University held its 20th place in the 2020 Complete University Guide and achieved a ranking of 24th in the 2020 Guardian University Guide. The University also retained its place in the world’s top 100 universities after placing 97th overall in the QS World University Rankings 2020.
