Dr Rebecca Limb Appointed Middle Temple Academic Fellow

Published: 28 September 2023

Dr Rebecca Limb (Lecturer in Law) has been appointed as an Academic Fellow of Middle Temple for a term of five years. The aim of the Fellowship scheme is to help foster a closer relationship between the practising Bar and academia.

Dr Limb’s research encompasses child medical law and biomedical law and ethics, with a particular passion for bridging the gap between medicine and the law. Through capturing, collecting, and engaging with the lived experiences of patients, children and those with disabilities, Dr Limb’s research introduces previously absent and under-represented voices into the wider academic debate from which she seeks to change policy and clinical practice.

Dr Limb's research interests include children’s consent to and refusals of medical treatment, child organ donation, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on vulnerable people and compulsory child vaccination. At present, Dr Limb is particularly focused on children’s participation in their health care – the topic of her forthcoming monograph published by Hart – and is currently working with children, healthcare professionals and lawyers to facilitate a culture of participation in children’s healthcare.

Commenting on the appointment, Dr Limb said, “It is a real privilege to have been appointed academic fellow at Middle Temple. This collaboration is a wonderful opportunity to work with and learn from Middle Temple’s members to take innovative steps that facilitate children and young people’s meaningful participation in key moments in their lives.”
