Exploring the Housing Crisis Conference, Saturday 5th March, 9:30am to 1:30pm.
There is a housing emergency in the UK.
Last year, a group of South East Unite Community activists set up a Housing Action Group and in collaboration with Southampton University Law School, have organised a Zoom Conference: 'Exploring The Housing Crisis' to examine the issues and to look at campaign solutions.
Amongst items up for discussion are empty homes, 2nd homes and holiday lets, evictions and COVID19, housing poverty, Students and housing, Grenfell and cladding, the crisis for Gypsies, Roma and Travellers, the rent reform bill, Tenant activism and how to unite housing campaigns.
We have a range of speakers: academics from the University Law School on stopping evictions and the renters' reform bill, Will McMahon of Campaign Against Empty Homes, Glyn Robbins and Morag Gillie - housing activists, Lloyd Russel-Moyle – MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, Tony O'Brien from Fuel Poverty Action, Moyra Samuels of Grenfell United and Suzanne Muna from SHAC, ACORN, SHELTER and many others.
The Conference will be opened by Sarah Carpenter, South East Unite the Union Regional Secretary and there will be a short introductory video on the housing crisis in Hastings starring our own Unite Community Activist, Gill Knight! ,
There will be opportunities for Q&A after each of the 4 sessions.
The housing crisis is a trade union issue - it massively affects our members, our families and our communities.
Please join and take part in this vitally important debate.
