Postgraduate Researcher

I chose to study at Southampton becuase of the professional academia in Maritime Law.

I really enjoyed the days when I was doing the final dissertation in the summer, because I felt the interest in research and the sense of achievement.

How did Southampton help you settle in once you started?

In life, there were some welcome events hosted by SUSU, which made me to feel at home. In academia, the seminars on Introduction of Common Law in the first week of semester 1 were really helpful.

What opportunities did you take up (within your degree programme and extra-curricular)? In what ways did they help your personal development?

The Wednesday Seminars were very meaningful. I learned a lot from them, which was very interesting and important to maritime law and which I did not have the opportunity to learn in depth in lectures.

Did any exposure to employer involvement or research led learning during your course help you achieve your ambition? If so, how?

The devotion to the dissertation made me feel the enthusiasm in research.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

I enjoyed the time when I could discuss the tough problems with my classmates.

What advice would you give to a student starting their degree at Southampton?

Be well prepared for the challenges you may face in law study, especially if you are from civil law jurisdiction!
