Ms Jennifer Lavelle is a Postgraduate research student within Southampton Law School at the University of Southampton.

Jennifer’s research primarily focuses on private international law and marine insurance, as well as maritime labour law. She teaches marine insurance and commercial conflict of laws and international litigation.

Jennifer read her undergraduate degree in Law at the University of Southampton, and subsequently obtained a Masters in Maritime Law from the same institution before becoming a Research Assistant for the Institute of Maritime Law in 2009. In 2011, Jennifer moved to Geneva, Switzerland, to work as an Associate Legal Affairs Officer for the Policy and Legislation Section of the Division on Technology and Logistics in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). She was invited back to UNCTAD for another short-term position during 2012/13.

Jennifer has published several academic articles and chapters on commercial and maritime law, and has contributed extensively to a number of UNCTAD reports on international legal issues. She is currently editing a collection of essays, to which she has also contributed, on the Maritime Labour Convention 2006. The edited collection will be published in September 2013. She is also the co-founder and General Editor of a website dedicated to domestic, European and international aviation law, www.aviationlaw.eu. Jennifer is a Member of the Insurance Law Research Group at the University of Southampton and a Member of Gray’s Inn, London.
