Katie Hunt is a Postgraduate Research Student within the Law School at the University of Southampton.

Katie is in the final year of her PhD on bereavement support in the criminal justice system.

Katie joined the Law School in 2016 after teaching for three years at Keele University and Stockport College. She holds an LLM in Gender, Sexuality and Law (Keele), an LLB in Law with French Law and Language (Leicester) and a diploma in French Law (Lyon). Her doctoral research is a qualitative, empirical study of equality of access to pastoral care for non-religious prisoners.

Research interests

My current research is on the intersection of religious equality, bereavement and the criminal justice system. I am also interested in gender and sexuality in the law.

Research projects

My PhD, entitled 'Grief without God: Equality of Pastoral Care for Bereaved Non-Religious Prisoners' is fully funded by the university and supervised by Harry Annison, Sara Benedi-Lahuerta and Emma Laurie.

Alongside my PhD, I invigilate faculty exams and sit on the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the Law School’s Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team.
