My desire to study law came from my desire to learn about intellectual property law. It brought together my interests and skills into one subject.

I regularly attended Law School events, guest lectures, and networking and social events outside of the University. The employability skills programme was really beneficial in helping me think about my future career and giving me the tools to network and discover what I need to do to get to where I want to be

One aspect in particular that fascinated me, was how patent law had to overcome an issue concerning molecules that were stereoisomers; essentially two products (e.g. drugs) that were identical but had a different chemical reaction.  Coming across this topic while doing A-level chemistry inspired me to want to look into intellectual property law and then eventually study it.

Since studying at the Law School I have really enjoyed copyright law and wrote my dissertation on private copying which involves the idea of whether there's a defence for the illegal act of buying a CD and copying it onto your phone.

I've always had aspirations to live abroad and fulfilled that by studying in Singapore for a year between 2015 – and 2016. What really made it special were the opportunities being abroad offered - there was a new culture, society and city to explore. Studying in another jurisdiction also helped me to appreciate the international aspects of the law degree.

Being a student in another country helped me to immerse myself, as it meant I had a network to rely on and an easy way to socialise with other students. The opportunity to study modules abroad gave me a new perspective of the cultures and beliefs behind the laws of Singapore.

Being able to select my own modules, studying areas of Law that interest me most has been a highlight of my degree.

In the future I see myself working as a Commercial Solicitor in London, working in corporate transactions and ideally Intellectual Property law.
