Becki joined the Learn with US Transition team in September 2016. She delivers all aspects of the programme.

Becki is a Southampton alumni, having previously been awarded a BSc in Sociology (2011), an MSc in Web Science (2012) and a PhD in Web Science (2017). She has a number of research interests, but is primarily focused on the Web, gender, and body modification processes. 

Passionate about student transition across the university experience, prior to taking up the role with Learn with US Transition, Becki worked as an adviser within the University’s Careers and Employability Service.

Research interests

  • The role of the Web on women’s engagement with aesthetic surgery and implications for feminist theory and politics
  • Changing societal perceptions of body modification practices in the West
  • The use of multimodal critical discourse analysis in qualitative Web research
  • The role of user-generated online content in developing patient-consumer expertise about aesthetic surgery

Becki previously taught on the undergraduate sociology module ‘Understanding Everyday Life’, and has annually delivered a lecture on ‘Gender, Feminism and the Web’ for MSc Web Science.
