Intellectual Property law is relevant to all aspects of the University’s agenda, not only in research and innovation but also in terms of education delivery.
We liaise with various professional departments at the University, such as Research and Innovation Services, Communications and the Library where advice and guidance is requested and deal directly with Schools on all intellectual property matters related to education.
We:
- Give general advice on copyright, trade marks, patents, databases, confidential information and design rights University wide.
- Advise on copyright and licencing issues in respect of the University’s Massive Open Inline Courses.
- Review and negotiate license agreements with collection societies e.g. CLA and assisting with the audit requirements under these agreements.
- Review and negotiate database access agreements.
- Draft and negotiate licenses to facilitate e-learning
- Draft and negotiate agreements in respect of television programmes.
- Advise on the use of material under crown copyright;
- Draft and negotiate agreements dealing with related matters such as individual release agreements for photography, web-casts etc.
All contentious and potentially litigious matters are dealt with in-house, with recourse to external advisers as necessary.
