University libraries close due to COVID-19

In line with government guidelines for reducing the spread of COVID-19, we are closing University libraries.

  • Hartley Library will be open today as usual and will close on Friday 20 March at 18:00 until further notice.
  • The National Oceanographic Library will be open from 09:00-17:00 today and will close on Friday 20 March at 17:00 until further notice.
  • The Health Services Library will open from 09:00-17:00 today and will close on Friday 20 March at 17:00 until further notice.
  • Winchester School of Art Library is closed until further notice.
  • Avenue Library and Learning Commons is closed until further notice.
  • Students will still be able to access study space within Building 100, the Centenary Building between 08:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday.

Information about loans

  • Any borrowed items will automatically be renewed until further notice
  • Loans will not become overdue
  • Laptop loan periods will be extended and no fines will accrue
  • User requests to reserve a 'hold' for print items will not be possible, but where possible we will provide access to electronic books
  • We will continue to purchase book order requests in electronic format
  • We are unable to process new Inter-Library Loan requests as many university libraries are no longer supporting this service while they prepare their COVID-19 contingency plans
  • We kindly request that you do not return print items to the library until further notice
