An update for our University of Southampton community,

I would like to thank you all for your support during the past few months; we have missed the Library buildings but have continued to offer online resources and services while working from home. We have been working with the University towards a phased safe return to campus and can now share details of our plans for July. Full details are included in the FAQs on our Library website but in brief:

  • Phase 1 involves a small number of Library staff working from the Hartley Library to supply digitised content from stock currently on the shelves at Hartley.
  • Phase 2 is a click & collect service allowing University students and staff to request books available in Hartley Library for a contact-free collection.
We are beginning with Hartley but have not forgotten our other libraries and there is lots of work going on behind the scenes to roll out the services as soon as everything is in place to do so.

Please see the FAQs for information on how to place digitisation and click & collect requests.

We also welcome book returns from our local final year students to the book returns slot to the right of the Hartley entrance, or to the University Halls Reception at Mayflower, Glen Eyre or Wessex Lane. Finalists in Winchester can return books at Erasmus Park Reception. If you are a finalist and you have left the local area, please use our postal returns service. If you are not a finalist, please keep hold of your books (which have all been automatically renewed until September 30th 2020) or use the Hartley Library book returns slot.

You cannot currently enter any of our libraries to browse or study, this will happen in a later phase when we are confident that it is safe to reopen.

We will continue to share details of new and enhanced services via our website and social media channels (Twitter and Facebook) or please contact us at libenqs@soton.ac.uk if you have any questions.

With best wishes,

Anna
