During the last decades, research on archaeological art has experienced an unparalleled development.
New finds, theories and methods of analysis have opened up novel lines of enquiry and put forward innovative interpretations that are, above all, bringing the human dimension of archaeological art to the forefront.
This module will provide an overview of archaeological art in prehistoric Europe which will be focused on its human/social dimension. We will examine the aesthetic, material and contextual qualities of particular artworks, artistic genres and traditions of prehistoric Europe, and explore current interpretations on their social facet.
