Chinese for Business Communication

This course provides training in Mandarin Chinese for absolute beginners for staff from the public or private sector.

The aim is to develop basic survival skills in communication, especially in business contexts. This course is particularly suitable for business professionals who wish to communicate using simple Chinese when visiting China, meeting their counterparts in the UK or employing Chinese nationals. 

The syllabus of this module will be functional-notional based. Main language functions covered include:

Meeting people: greetings and introduction

Networking: small talk

Travelling: reservations, enquiries and requests

Visiting a company/customer: socializing, enquiries, offers and commitment

Sight-seeing in China: meaning of signs and posters, asking the way

Eating in a restaurant: ordering drinks and food

Attending or organizing business meetings: presentations and negotiations

Exchanging messages: writing notes, short emails and making calls
