Writing For Children and Young Adults

This module will explore the key skills specific to writing for the exciting Children and Young Adult market.

Child reading
Child reading

Each week a facet of creative writing will be explored, including narrative perspective, characterisation, plot, tension and suspense, dialogue, and setting.

This module is designed to not only foster a love of writing for children, but also to develop and enhance your own writing in this genre through the use of a wide variety of interactive techniques and exercises.  In addition to this, through a comparison and discussion of example texts, an understanding of how the market works will be gained, including an exploration of what makes it such an interesting and rewarding area in which to write.

There will be the opportunity each week to read your developing work in a safe and critically constructive environment and to provide positive verbal feedback to other group members.

Date: Wednesday evenings, starting 5 February 2014
Time: 7 - 9 pm
Duration: 12 meetings
