How to Apply

Use the Find a course page to browse the different courses and events that we offer. To apply, please click the relevant link at the bottom of the course page under 'Payment'. Confirmation of a place on a course or study day cannot be given until payment has been made through the store. If you are unable to make an online payment please contact us and a member of the Lifelong Learning team will try their best to assist you.

The Online Store accepts a wide range of credit and debit cards and now also PayPal. We will remove links to the Online Store for any cancelled courses, and the store will not let you book if the course is already full.

Instead you will have the option to add your name to the waiting list - in the event of places subsequently becoming available, we will endeavour to fill them from the top of the waiting list. You do not have to pay to add your name to the waiting list - if we are able to offer you a place we will contact you via email and instruct you how to make payment.

Term Dates 2016/17

1 - Autumn term: starts week commencing 10/10/16  - ending week commencing 12/12/2016  (10 weeks)

2 - Spring term: starts week commencing 16/01/17  -  ending week commencing 20/03/2017  (10 weeks)

3 - Summer term: starts week commencing 24/04/17   - ending week commencing 26/06/2017  (10 weeks)

Term Dates 2017/18

1 - Autumn term: starts week commencing 09/10/17  - ending week commencing 14/12/2017  (10 weeks)

2 - Spring term: starts week commencing 08/01/18  -  ending week commencing 15/03/2018  (10 weeks)

3 - Summer term: starts week commencing 16/04/18   - ending week commencing 21/06/2018  (10 weeks)

Please note the University is closed on Bank Holidays and classes will not run on those days.

 

Viability of Evening Courses and Deadlines

We do not have an application deadline - however, courses can become fully subscribed very early (although we do have a waiting list facility, so places may become available for students who have signed up but not had a place confirmed). Also, we endeavour to run all courses advertised but need sufficient applications in order for them to run.

Evening Course Fees

All evening course fees are displayed on the individual course page.

Discounts are available on the Online Store, if you are a member of staff or a student please ensure you book with your Southampton email address and staff/student ID number.

Study Days Fees

£40 full rate (Loyalty Scheme available), £28 loyalty rate and £14 discount rate

(A Loyalty Scheme is being offered to those booking more than one study day paying the full rate, please email us on lifelonglearning@southampton.ac.uk to find out more.)

Those who would qualify for the loyalty rate are: Harbour Lights Members (for Film events), Friends of Parkes (for any Parkes-related event), English Teachers Network, university staff and alumni.

Those who would qualify for the discount rate are: students/sixth form and college students and those in receipt of income-based Job Seeker's Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credit, Council Tax or Housing Benefit.

Discounts will be available through the Online Store, and evidence of your status will be required on application.

Refunds

Working days' notice before the start date of the course

Refund applicable
5 or more working days before the start of the course Full refund minus a £25 administrative charge
Less than 5 working days before the start of the course 75% refund minus a £25 administrative charge (see below for cancellations of multiple term bookings)
Up to 1 working day before the third class of the course 50% refund + £25 administrative charge (see below for cancellations of multiple term bookings)
After the date of the third class No refund will be given
Cancellations of multiple term bookings If you have paid for multiple terms at the discount price, but wish to cancel future terms, you will be refunded the full amount, minus the cost of the term(s) attended at full cost + £25 administration fee. All requests to cancel between terms must be made 5 working days before the start of the upcoming term. If requests are made to cancel future terms after a term has started, that term will be charged, at the full cost.
Non-attendance No refund will be given
