Event details

We will be holding a one-day cultural event on Jewish-Christian relations, consisting of a series of short talks led by experts from within the Parkes Institute for the study of Jewish/non-Jewish Relations at the University of Southampton. These thought provoking and inspiring conferences provide you with the opportunity to learn and engage in discussion about this aspect of Jewish Studies from academics of international distinction.

The day will consist of a series of talks and workshops delivered by Dr Helen Spurling from the Parkes Institute for the Study of Jewish/Non-Jewish Relations.

The talks will explore the complexity of the relationship between Jews and Christians from Antiquity to the present day, focusing particularly on the Bible and its interpretation through the ages. The workshops will examine biblical texts and their interpretation against their social, religious, cultural and historical background and their impact upon Jewish-Christian relations. There will be time devoted to examining sources to supplement the talks, as well as opportunities to discuss the material with Dr Spurling and the other attendees. Questions and participation are warmly encouraged in this supportive and informal environment.

Places are limited, so book your place early to avoid disappointment.

Charges are:

£25 including lunch and refreshments
£20 concessions (UoS students, staff, alumni; over 65's; friends of Parkes)
