Event details

This year the Fifth Wellington Congress will take place at the University of Southampton's Avenue Campus.

As well as keynotes from Rory Muir, Emma Clery and Chris Woolgar, there will be some 20 papers on a variety of topics - most with a focus on the Peninsular War - including presentations on military engineering and tactics; literary representations of Wellington and Waterloo; and case studies on individuals, and events that occurred in 1813.

On the Friday evening there will be a visit to Tudor House in historic Southampton. The celebrations on Saturday evening will commence with a reception and private view of a Wellington related exhibition in the Special Collections Gallery followed, as is traditional, by the Congress dinner. Sunday afternoon will provide the opportunity to attend "A musical history of the French Wars": a concert of early nineteenth-century music related to the Napoleonic Wars performed by Professor David Owen Norris of the University of Southampton and soprano, Amanda Pitt in the Turner Sims Concert Hall.

The registration form for the event should be returned to:

Wellington 2013, Hartley Library, University of Southampton, Highfield, Southampton SO17 1BJ.
