Event details

Throughout his life, Wittgenstein wrote remarks about art, culture and religion that have an interestingly ambivalent relationship with his philosophical writings.

Though not included in those writings, it is clear that he himself regarded them as of a piece with his thoughts about logic, language and mathematics. This talk will look at what Wittgenstein said about art, music, literature and religion and try to make clear how those thoughts connect with his more strictly philosophical work.

Speaker information

Professor Ray Monk,Ray Monk took up his position in Southampton in 1992. He has published award-winning biographies of Wittgenstein and Russell.
