Event details

As part of MeXsu's (Centre for Mexico-Southampton Collaboration) Mexico Week to celebrate the special 'UK-Mexico Cultural Year 2015', we will be holding a day of talks and exhibitions around the theme of 'Challenges and Opportunities in Contemporary Mexico' on Saturday 31 October.

This will include talks on the current threats to Mexico's social, cultural and ecological environment from political and natural influences, including the notorious narcotraficantes. Violence exists in Mexico today in many forms, as well as innovation and hope. The talks will include discussions around literature and music in contemporary Mexico and how they respond to this environment. The afternoon will feature a talk by Jon Bonfiglio the director of the renowned Clipperton Project.

There will be an exhibition displaying the work of the project on show at Avenue Campus during the week leading up to Jon's talk, and he will give a tour of the exhibition during the Study Day. The Project explores issues of sustainability and understanding of the natural environment in remote rural has well as busy urban sites. As well as being a truly global project, Clipperton, led by Jon, has worked in Mexico for many years.

All welcome. Entry is free, and will include a Mexican-style buffet lunch, please click here to book your place.
