Event details

We will be holding a one-day cultural event consisting of a series of short talks led by experts from within Archaeology at Southampton.

The last few years have seen immense changes in the study of human origins, with much new evidence being revealed (especially ancient DNA, new species and new dates). This evidence, however, is not self-evident in its meanings, and needs new approaches to ensure we extract the most information possible from it. This study day will explore some of those new approaches, including how we reconstruct ancient the societies and relationships of our distant ancestors and relatives (known as "hominins"), how they used their landscapes and resources, how they used art and music, and how they applied technological knowledge.
