In this webinar, the last in our Lunchtimes Unlocked series, we are offering you a flavour of some of our Lifelong Learning courses which will be available in the autumn. Over a series of short talks (10-15 minutes each) you will:

Hear from Misha Enyat about Food for Thought: Anthropological and Archaeological Approaches to Eating a course which explores the key themes in the field of food studies by drawing upon examples, methods and approaches from the disciplines of archaeology and anthropology. Explore how food has shaped history and the human body, as well as how cultural values, identities, beliefs and concerns are reflected in what and how we eat. To watch the talk, click here.

Learn about The Victorian Novel from Katie Holdway who will explore the novel through some if its most famous writers alongside other Victorian print media, including newspapers, periodicals, penny fiction, reviews, images and artefacts. To watch the talk, click here.

Consider the Literary Legacy of the British Empire with Emma Hills who will explore questions around the literary representation and legacy of the nineteenth-century British imperial project through reading and analysing canonical nineteenth-century novels alongside more recent fiction. To watch the talk, click here.

Explore one of the most compelling and important concepts in biology with Marco Puglia in Biology and Evolution: An introduction to the search for the origins of biodiversity, a course which will illustrate the drawbacks encountered by researchers in the development of an idea, and the never-ending quest for the genesis of the numerous species we see all around us. To watch the talk, click here.

These courses are designed and taught by University of Southampton PhD students and are closely related to ongoing research in these areas. They are taught over 6 weeks (in the evenings) and will be both informative and interactive, encouraging active discussion and engagement with the topics presented.
