Hi, I'm Don Noinenl and I studied BSc Mathematics with Computer Science within Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

When it comes to innovation, having a mathematical background has allowed me to solve problems more efficiently

Q: What have you achieved as a result of studying Maths at the University of Southampton?

I am currently working as a Product Manager for a video messaging app called Wordeo. We have progressed from the start-up stage to having 4 million pounds venture capital funding. We are currently based in Shoreditch London and we aspire to reach new audiences in different countries.

Q: How have your studies helped you in this role?

My studies have motivated me in terms of problem solving and, when it comes to innovation, having a mathematical background has allowed me to develop the skills necessary to solve problems more efficiently. Also learning the campus culture and transferring it to the real world has been very beneficial because I can communicate with different people from all walks of life, and it is a fun learning experience.

Q: Do you feel that studying at the University of Southampton helped you gain this role?

Yes definitely. The main reason I heard about this opportunity was because a University of Southampton alumni who was working in London attended an event held on campus and introduced me to other people in his team. I would like to do the same for someone else in the future.

Q: What have you enjoyed about studying at the University of Southampton?

I have just loved everything about it - the new experiences, the different societies and the vast opportunities which are available out there. The ability to have these opportunities is something that I cherished and the memories I have made will stay with me forever.

Q: Were there any modules which you particularly enjoyed?

I have enjoyed the Computer Science modules, Calculus and various Statistics modules which have contributed to my success so I am very happy with those.
