Hi, I'm Oliver Jackson and I studied BSc Mathematics within Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

While studying Maths at Southampton I have really enjoyed the variety of modules that I have been able to choose from, including pure mathematics, applied modules and statistics.

Why did you choose to study Maths at the University of Southampton?

I chose to study Maths at Southampton because the University has a great reputation and a really wide range of modules to choose from, as well as outstanding teaching. On top of all this, the campus itself is lovely and there is plenty to do in the city.

What did you enjoy about studying Maths at Southampton?

While studying Maths at Southampton I have really enjoyed the variety of modules that I have been able to choose from, including pure mathematics, applied modules and statistics. It gave me the opportunity to study a mixture of financial modules alongside black holes and relativity, so I was never bored.

What have you been able to achieve as a result of studying at the University of Southampton?

While studying at the University of Southampton I have not only been able to take advantage of the excellent quality of teaching and facilities, I have had a great time getting involved elsewhere. I have worked on a campaign team during the student elections week, as well as helping out on radio shows for Surge, the University radio station. I have also been able to help new and prospective students, working on University open days guiding groups around the campus, and helping new students moving into halls of residence on arrivals weekend.

Did you get involved in any clubs or societies?

Something I really enjoyed while I was studying at Southampton was all the opportunities to get involved in intramural sports. It meant that I could meet more people from my course and make new friends, and competing against students from other disciplines meant that I was proud to represent the Maths team.
