Dr Ivan Korotkin is a Senior Research Assistant in Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Background

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Southampton and a visiting Research Fellow at the School of Engineering and Materials Science, Queen Mary University of London. I obtained my Ph.D. in Mathematical Modelling from Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics in Moscow in 2006. Since then I had several research positions including my work in the Russian Academy of Sciences, also a postdoc position and a Marie Curie Research Fellowship in Queen Mary University of London. I have been the main developer of several recent hybrid multiscale models based on the two-phase analogy. Now I have been working on the developing of novel mathematical models of batteries and battery cells.

Research interests

My scientific interests include several interdisciplinary approaches bridging together computational mathematics, numerical methods, computer science, physics and chemistry. Specifically, I research physical and chemical mechanisms of the battery cells and work on the implementation of the mathematical models of batteries into the code. The long-term goal is to create a robust and very fast computational framework for optimisation the physical, geometrical and chemical parameters of the batteries in order to make them more powerful and efficient.
