Transatlantic Award for Southampton Professor
Russell Cheng, Professor of Operational Research in the School of Mathematics, received the Distinguished Service Award of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences Simulation Society (ISS)
Professor Cheng recieved the award at the opening ceremony of the 2007 Winter Simulation Conference in Washington DC this month before 800 participants.
The award recognizes individuals who have provided long-standing, exceptional service to the simulation community, and may be given to at most one person annually. Russell Cheng is a past Chairman of the UK Simulation Society and was a founding Editor of the Journal of Management Mathematics published by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, as well as having served on various Editorial Boards including Management Science and OR Letters. He is only the second person from outside the United States and the first from the United Kingdom to have received the award.
The award was presented by Professor Barry Nelson of Northwestern University, Chairman of ISS and Member of the Award Nominating Committee.
