PhD Research Studentship in Operational Research/Management Science

The LANCS Initiative is a £13 million project to expand UK research capacity in the foundations of Operational Research (OR). LANCS is a collaboration between four of the leading OR research groups in the UK (Lancaster, Cardiff and Nottingham are joined with Southampton in the Initiative).

Applications are invited for a PhD Research Studentship that is funded under the LANCS Initiative. The research project should fall within one of the research clusters of the LANCS Initiative, which are

  • Transport and Logistics
  • Healthcare
  • Optimization
  • Heuristic Understanding
  • Systems to Build Systems

Registration will either be in the School of Mathematics or in the School of Management.

The studentship is for three years. It covers University tuition fees and provides a tax-free stipend of over £13,000 per year.

Candidates should have a First or Upper Second Class degree in a quantitative discipline, and preferably an MSc degree in Operational Research, Management Science, or a related discipline. Also, evidence of English language proficiency is required for candidates not having English as a first language.
