On Thursday 11th November, Prof Chris Potts was awarded the Beale Medal by the OR Society. The medal gives recognition to a sustained contribution over many years to the theory, practice, or philosophy of operational research in the UK, and is the most prestigious award presented by the OR society for research, so to win this award is a huge achievement.

The full citation from the OR Society can be read here, but the below quote illustrates Professor Potts' contribution:

"Professor Potts has made a sustained and significant contribution to combinatorial optimisation, particularly in scheduling research. He has also developed and led large projects in the area and worked with external organisations to translate his research into practice. As the head of the OR group at the University of Southampton for many years and through his work supporting NATCOR, he has also been a mainstay of the OR academic community in the UK."

Chris is one of the top 5 contributors to scheduling problems in operational research, as reported in a recent paper by Calma et al. (2021), entitled Operations Research: Topics, Impact, and Trends from 1952-2019:

List of top 5 contributors to scheduling problems in operational research

Many congratulations to Chris for this extremely well-deserved recognition of his achievements!
