Event details

A lecture sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Actuaries

 Solving Business Issues and Dilemmas

- The lecture starts with some simple ethical dilemmas where there is no single solution that works for everyone and focuses on how to solve business issues by evaluating alternatives and justifying the chosen solution.

- The lecture then looks at some real business issues in finance, accountancy, engineering and the law, demonstrating that many business issues tackled by actuaries are fundamentally the same across all industries.

- In the lecture, the audience will be encouraged to look at issues from the perspective of a Main Board Director, helping them decide whether they wish to develop skills as a trusted advisor to top directors or as a Main Board Director themselves.

- The lecture concludes with two examples where actuaries are helping to solve big global issues - where valuable solutions justify the high pay earned by many actuaries.
