Quasars are highly luminous galactic nuclei, so distant that
they cannot be resolved as anything more than a point with current generations of telescopes. I will discuss how reverberation mapping, a form of 'echo-location' using the light emitted by the central luminous object, may have given us an unprecedented insight into the finer structure of quasars.
