Knowing what's best for the individuals comprising a group, how can we determine what's best for the group as a whole? I will explain how a geometric viewpoint on this classic question has led to new results. Applying this to voting theory, I'll draw a distinction between tactical and strategic voting and show how the latter may be avoided.
