String Theory Seminar

Certain holographic models can exhibit a phase in which translational invariance is spontaneously broken. This situation is described in the bulk by a branch of inhomogeneous black branes emerging from the normal phase below a critical temperature. 'Striped' solutions arise when these black branes are cohomogeneity-two. I will present the direct numerical construction of these striped black holes through an elliptic reformulation of the Einstein equations, and discuss some of their properties.
