Abstract: We investigate the effect of introducing an order N^2 density of heavy quarks into N=4 SYM in the large N limit. At strong coupling such configurations are described by both supersymmetric (quarter BPS) and non-supersymetric geometries which exhibit a flow from AdS_5 xS^5 in the UV to IR scaling geometries displaying Lifshitz-like anisotropy with
critical exponent z=7. We discuss the implications of this for exploring finite density physics with dynamical or massless quarks.
