Series S3RI seminar
In earlier work, we discussed an ecological fallacy where IPMs are customarily fitted with individual level data but inference is made at population scale. We showed how to remedy this problem by viewing the data inthe form of point patterns, with the IPM model yielding intensities. We will review this work and also show some new progress including a multi-species IPM, a multi-trait IPM, spatial scaling with the IPM, and a new piece of software which enables fitting of the population-level IPM. We illustrate with an investigation of forest dynamics using data from Duke Forest as well as a U.S. national survey called the Forest Inventory Analysis.
