The general linear group and K theory Seminar

Abstract:
To begin the K-theory
seminar I will briefly recall K_0 of a ring, topological space and C*
algebra. I will then talk about how definitions of higher K-theory
groups (particularly K_1) in terms of the general linear group (over a
ring or C* algebra) are motivated
by the definition of the higher topological K-theory groups that was
given by Atiyah -- Hirzebruch.
