Some remarks on the adjoint representation of GL_n Seminar

I will discuss the problem of describing highest weight vectors in the ring of polynomial functions on nxn matrices. This leads to the nilpotent cone, the notion of transmutation, a generalised Chevalley restriction theorem, the coinvariant ring for the symmetric group, and Kostka polynomials.
