Gravity Seminar Series
Advanced gravitational wave interferometers will soon commence taking data with the goal of directly detecting gravitational radiation. Coalescing binaries comprising neutron stars and black holes are expected to be a primary source of detections. I will review the basic strategies and challenges behind the searches for these binaries. I will address the prospects offered by joint electromagnetic and gravitational wave observations of coalescing neutron star binaries and discuss some recent progress in the analytical modelling of the gravitational radiation emitted by neutron-star--black-hole binaries.
