Event details

I shall describe how a mixture of finite and infinite group theory, namely triangle groups and their finite quotient groups, can provide the solutions to various problems in other areas of mathematics, such as algebraic geometry and the theory of Riemann surfaces (no previous knowledge required!). This includes both classical results and recent joint work with Emilio Pierro on doubly Hurwitz Beauville groups, those groups which minimise the Euler characteristic in a certain class of complex surfaces.

All are encouraged to come and  bring a packed lunch if you like.
