Event details

A profinite group is a totally disconnected compact Hausdorff topological group, or equivalently, an inverse limit of an inverse system of finite groups. The main motivation behind them is finding out algebraic properties of a group by studying its finite quotients. Apart from group theory, these groups appear in algebraic number theory. The talk is aimed to be a short introduction into profinite groups and some theory surrounding them.
