Abstract: Right-angled Artin groups (or partially commutative groups) are a class of groups which interpolate between free and free-abelian groups. They have a simple combinatorial description, which makes them a good source of examples in topology and geometric group theory. One would guess that their automorphism groups should interpolate between automorphism groups of free groups and automorphism groups of free abelian groups (so GL(n,Z)), however it is not easy to get a precise statement that realizes this intuition. I will describe some joint work with Matthew Day that looks into this particular problem and problems involving finiteness properties of these automorphism groups.
